About Us
We are a Christian organization committed to serving the vulnerable population in Uganda
It all began in 2006, when Julie attended a Watoto conference in Kampala, Uganda called "Hope for Africa’s Children". During that trip, Julie had the opportunity to visit some organizations in the Kampala area and to meet many Ugandans, all with a heart to help their people. Two of the people she met on that very first trip to Uganda were Betty and Chris. They were both working as social workers for one of the organizations that she visited.
When Julie returned home to Canada from that trip to Uganda, her heart was broken. One of the things that hit her the hardest was realizing how much we take for-granted, living in a country like Canada…things like clean drinking water, running water in our homes, stable power, a toilet, more than one meal a day, and the list goes on. She knew God was calling her to help in whatever way possible.
We are committed to sharing the love of Christ not only through our words but also through our actions. We believe in caring for both the physical and spiritual needs of the people that we serve in Uganda.
Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works. James 20:26

Our Story
Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day. Isaiah 58:10 TLB
Julie and Betty have been serving together for many years. Since they started serving together in 2006, they have helped impact the lives of thousands of vulnerable Ugandans. Over the years, they have provided emergency food relief on several occasions, multiple free mobile medical clinics in slums and remote villages, blankets and meals for disabled homeless people living in Kampala, and mattresses for some of the elderly villagers to sleep on.
In September 2023, Darlene joined Julie on a trip to Uganda. It was Darlene's first time joining a mission trip to Africa. During this trip, Betty brought Julie and Darlene to a remote village in the Karamoja Region of North-eastern Uganda. As they visited homes together, they heard the same story over and over again. So many of the elderly villagers spoke of being abandoned by their children. Many of these people struggle with health issues; some of them are disabled, yet they are often left to fend for themselves. Most of the villagers we visited spoke about extreme hunger. Through this experience, Darlene realized that she too wanted to get involved in serving these vulnerable people with Betty and Julie. And during this time, they came to realize the importance of not just providing food and other items through one-time relief programs but rather to help communities become self-sufficient, particularly when it comes to food supply.
After their visit to Aremo Village, they went to Gulu, where they met with two pastors who are from this very village. Both of these pastors have had their lives transformed through the love and work of Jesus Christ. They are committed to helping their community experience what they have experienced first-hand. One of the pastors (Mattiao) shared that he has been praying for 10 years, that God would send someone to come help their village. He told Betty, Julie and Darlene that they were in fact an answer to his prayers. It is so amazing to know that God truly does care about each and every one of us.
It was this trip that inspired these 3 ladies to make a commitment to serving this village in Karamoja. And a few months after Julie and Darlene returned to Canada, Chris and Amber joined the team that is now known as Hands Serving Uganda (HSU).

Meet The Team
For I assisted the poor in their need
and the orphans who required help.
I helped those without hope, and they blessed me.
And I caused the widows’ hearts to sing for joy.
